From Homelessness To Tour Guide

From Homelessness To Tour Guide: The Story Behind This Amazing Social Enterprise – The Digital Tourism Show #216

Lead by Chris Torres, Zakia will discuss how she came up with the idea of a global social enterprise that trains people who have experienced homelessness to become walking tour guides of their own city and offers alternative walking tours to tourists and locals.

After moving to Scotland 11 years ago, Zakia started working in international development, mainly with organisations supporting people who have experienced homelessness or have been displaces. She was Director of International Partner Development at the Homeless World Cup Foundation for several years before taking time out to travel to Greece and volunteering in a refugee camp on Lesvos Island.

Since launching in the Scottish Capital in 2016, Invisible Cities now also operates in Manchester and Glasgow with further plans for expansion to York and other UK cities.
