A little background information about Chris Torres
Chris is a father of two, a mega Star Wars nerd, art lover, and globe trotter. Chris has been all over the World, but he is especially enamoured with Japan — it’s culture, art, and filmmakers.
What’s the best place you’ve ever visited?
Kyoto. It’s a stunning city as it combines the modern with the traditions of Japan’s past. Meeting a Geisha and learning about Japanese culture was the highlight of the trip.
With unlimited budget, where would you love to travel?
To be honest, I’d go all over — make it a round-the-world trip. There are so many countries I would love to visit and experience. If I were limited to only one, it would be back to Japan to see the other parts of the country I missed the first time.
What attracted you to the digital marketing industry?
It wasn’t so much the industry itself that attracted me, but the people I meet. I’ve had the privilege of working with some amazing clients over the years. Seeing clients’ reactions when we increase their profits still gives me huge job satisfaction.
Which brand do you most admire?
Recently, I would say I’m most impressed by the ‘Inspired By Iceland’ brand (or perhaps it should be considered a movement?). The country, as a whole, came together as one to market itself. Iceland showed the rest of the world how to do it properly. Everyone seemed to get involved: pilots, shop owners, and even Iceland’s President made a point of welcoming tourists to his home on occasion! Outstanding marketing — Scotland, take note!
What’s the best thing about working in the tourism industry?
Meeting new people. That’s what it’s all about for me. Tourism builds relationships and tears down barriers. Experiencing other cultures helps destroy prejudices and it makes us more humane.
